The German Packaging Institute is holding a two-hour online workshop “Design4Recycling” on 23 March 2022. The aim is to consider this issue from beginning to end, i.e. the focus will be on closing the cycles for plastics and thus establishing a circular economy for packaging.
The seminar will be focusing on design, as this sets the parameters for recycling. In four thematic blocks, the seminar will present the requirements for sustainable packaging and highlight the key determinants for the best possible recycling quality and possible downstream applications of plastic recyclates.
The event is therefore divided into four parts. The first block, “Sustainable packaging”, will focus on the requirements of policy-makers, retailers, manufacturers and consumers, while the second block will present practical examples of how to improve recyclability, for example by substituting materials or reducing the amount of material used. This topic will be explored in more detail in the third block in which the influencing factors and effects on recyclate quality, for example through printing, adhesives or the variety of materials, will be discussed. In the final fourth block, the focus will be on application areas for plastic recyclates and the technical challenges for the mechanical recycling of plastics from household waste.
